Address-in-Reply: Premier’s State of the State Speech 2025
Meg delivered her formal Address-in-Reply to the annual Premier’s State of the State Speech, on Thursday, 13Â March 2025.
In her speech, Meg called for:
- stronger political leadership which demonstrates integrity and vision
- further political donations disclosure reforms, including the introduction of Truth-in-Advertising laws
- Strengthened whistleblower protection laws
- the Premier to resume the Aboriginal Affairs ministerial portfolio and recommit to Truth-telling and Treaty with the Tasmanian Aboriginal community;
- the re-establishment of a dedicated Climate Change Minister;
- the introduction of a Tasmanian Human Rights Act
- the establishment of an external and Independent Police Oversight Authority;
- meaningful action to address homelessness and the housing crisis;
amongst other important reforms.
Meg also highlighted the government’s betrayal of the community over:
- the UTAS Sandy Bay campus
- the ongoing attack on our planning system with the push for Development Assessment Panel changes (DAPs)
- Abandoning the promised pokies mandatory commitment reforms which were considered nation-leading
