Blackmans Bay garden success in Parliament
Independent member for Nelson Meg Webb MLC took the Blackmans Bay Community Association’s (BBCA) Edible garden Trail to a recent Legislative Council meeting.
“I and my family had such a wonderful time exploring the inspirational Edible Garden Trail in February this year that I felt I had to highlight in the Parliament the tireless work by the Blackmans Bay Community Association and the generous garden hosts who make
it all happen,” Ms Webb said.
“I was delighted to host representatives from BBCA and local garden owners to hear my parliamentary speech during which I acknowledged their invaluable contribution to the health and resilience of the local Blackmans Bay community.
“From the small seed of an idea which germinated during the pandemic, the Blackmans Bay Edible Garden Trail has grown in success that this year’s event saw at least 200 visitors explore the nine gardens on display.”
The event is also now so successful that the BBCA no longer needs local government funding assistance, instead relying on their network of volunteers and prize sponsorships from local businesses.
Representatives of the BBCA President Louisa d’Arville, Chloe Bibari, and Diana Taylor, along with Edible Garden hosts Wendy Bowman and Peter Williams attended the Legislative Council Special Interest Matter speech as Ms Webb’s guests.
