Address-in-Reply: Premier’s State of the State Speech 2026

Meg delivered her formal Address-in-Reply to the annual Premier’s State of the State Speech, on Thursday, 19  March 2026.

In her speech, Meg called for:

  • stronger political leadership which demonstrates integrity and vision
  • the Premier to resume the Aboriginal Affairs ministerial portfolio and recommit to Truth-telling and Treaty with the Tasmanian Aboriginal community;
  • the need for a clear Climate Change focus and climate justice commitment;
  • Meaningful and urgent structural reform of the state’s finances;
  • meaningful action to address homelessness and the housing crisis.

amongst other important reforms.

Meg also highlighted the government’s betrayal of the community over:

  • the UTAS Sandy Bay campus
  • Abandoning the promised pokies mandatory commitment reforms which were considered nation-leading
