Address-in-Reply: Premier’s State of the State Speech 2026
Meg delivered her formal Address-in-Reply to the annual Premier’s State of the State Speech, on Thursday, 19Â March 2026.
In her speech, Meg called for:
- stronger political leadership which demonstrates integrity and vision
- the Premier to resume the Aboriginal Affairs ministerial portfolio and recommit to Truth-telling and Treaty with the Tasmanian Aboriginal community;
- the need for a clear Climate Change focus and climate justice commitment;
- Meaningful and urgent structural reform of the state’s finances;
- meaningful action to address homelessness and the housing crisis.
amongst other important reforms.
Meg also highlighted the government’s betrayal of the community over:
- the UTAS Sandy Bay campus
- Abandoning the promised pokies mandatory commitment reforms which were considered nation-leading
