Question & Answer – RA Rodda Museum – Support and Compensation for Families
Ms WEBB question to LEADER for the GOVERNMENT in the LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL, Ms RATTRAY
Thursday 29 OctoberÂ
[2.52 p.m.]
Thank you, Mr President. I have another set of questions I have an answer to, apparently from the Leader of the Government.
Noting the September 2025 Tasmanian Coronial Findings Report in relation to human remains retained following coronial autopsies between 1966 and 1991 at the R.A. Rodda
Museum, and noting the formal parliamentary apology provided on 19 May 2026, can the government please:
1. Confirm whether ongoing support, counselling, mediation or any other ongoing discussions surrounding support needed are occurring between the government and affected family members of those whose remains have been part of the R.A. Rodda Museum illegal body parts collection?
2. Detail whether the Government
a. Is considering any financial redress or other reparation for affected family members. And if not, why not?
b. Has undertaken any modelling or costing of any potential appropriate financial redress or other reparation and if not, why not?
3. Detail whether a form of appropriate memorial is being actively considered and if so, what consultation with affected family members is being planned or is under way?
