Address-in-Reply: Governor’s Opening of Parliament Speech 2024

Meg delivered her formal Address-in-Reply to the Governor’s opening of Parliament Speech, on Tuesday, 21 May 2024.

In her speech, Meg called for:

• the goverment to recommit to Truth-telling and Treaty with the Tasmanian Aboriginal community;
• action to address the CSA Commission of Inquiry recommendations, including the swift closure of the Ashley Youth Detention Centre;
• the re-establishment of a dedicated Climate Change Minister;
• the establishment of an external and Independent Police Oversight Authority;
• meaningful action to address homelssness and the housing crisis;

amongst other important issues.
