ANZAC Day Message
A pause to remember, writes Meg Webb MLC.

Each year, on the morning of the 25th of April, Australians pause to commemorate the anniversary of the landing of Australian and New Zealand troops at Gallipoli in 1915.

It is a time of quiet reflection to remember the collective effort of the Australian men and women who courageously dedicated their lives to serving their country, and protect our way of life.

In Tasmania, nearly 15, 500 men enlisted to defend their country, and around 3000 women enlisted as nurses.

Tragically, not all returned home, and so I am sure that across our community, we will come together to ensure these servicemen and women continue to be honoured.

Traditionally on this day, wearing a sprig of rosemary can be a symbol of remembrance. Rosemary can be found growing wild on the plains of Gallipoli, and so is significant in helping us remember those who bravely served our state and country.

As well as commemorating the ANZACS, we also honour those who continue to serve our nation in all military and peacekeeping operations Australia has since been involved in.

On this day, we reflect on the lessons learned from the past to help guide us into a kinder, and safer future.

Lest we forget.
