Nelson gears up to vote in the Legislative Council election
Whilst the federal election may be out of the way, more than 78,000 Tasmanians will have to prepare themselves for the Legislative Council election on Saturday, May 24.
Three candidates have been announced for the division of Nelson, which encompasses the Kingborough municipal area north of Algona Road and Pearsall Avenue in Blackmans Bay, including Kingston and Kingston Beach, along with parts of Blackmans Bay, Leslie Vale, Neika and Longley.
The candidates are Independent Member for Nelson Meg Webb, who is looking to retain her seat, Marcus Vermey for Liberal and Nathan Volf for the Tasmanian Greens.
Pre-polling opened yesterday on Monday, May 5.
“Nelson voters will soon have the opportunity to take a second bite of the democracy sausage,” Ms Webb said.
“I don’t think we need to be concerned with voter fatigue following the federal election.
“Instead, the feedback I am receiving strongly indicates many Nelson electors are keen to exercise their voting rights once more, this time for the Tasmanian Upper House.”
