Justice Reform

My Commitment

I have a strong passion for ensuring social justice and addressing disadvantage. Having worked in the community sector for close to 20 years prior to parliament, I have seen the first-hand impact of poverty and inequality on others in our community.

It is a priority for me to provide a voice for Tasmanians who are vulnerable, and ensure there are strengthened community insurance policies that allow everybody to have the same access to justice and are treated justly.

Justice Reform

We can and must do better to address:

  • Climate Justice: We need to be clearly and consciously developing policy parameters, settings and levers to ensure we are prioritising addressing climate change, while also ensuring we deliver ecological and social climate justice.
  • Rehabilitation and Restorative Justice: There needs to be an emphasis on reinforcing support mechanisms in the community that prevent incarcertion.
  • Strengthening Integrity Oversight Entities: Independent oversight entities such as the Tasmanian National Preventative Mechanism must be properly resourced and supported so that they can identify wrongdoing and human rights abuses.
