We Stand Together Against Racism Campaign Welcome

21 March 2025

Independent Member for Nelson Meg Webb today marked International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination by calling for leadership across all tiers of government to tackle deliberate and casual racism wherever it occurs.

“Leadership across all tiers of government is essential to send a clear, loud and strong message that racism in all forms is not welcome in Tasmania,” Ms Webb said.

“I congratulate the Southern Tasmanian Councils for seizing the initiative and launching their powerful We Stand Against Racism campaign.

“The campaign sends a powerful message that we can all take a stand and act to to secure a welcoming, diverse and safe community for all.

“Everyone deserves to feel they belong.

“Sadly, not everyone in our community experiences that feeling of belonging, due to either deliberate or casual racism.

“We all need to do our bit to challenge discriminatory barriers experienced by our fellow Tasmanians.”

Ms Webb participated in this morning’s walk hosted by the Southern Tasmanian Councils to launch the new anti-racism campaign to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
