Where are latest Ministerial Diary Disclosures?: April – June 2024 Quarter Missing

5 August 2024

Independent Member for Nelson Meg Webb today queried the delay in publication of the latest Ministerial Diary Disclosures for the April to June quarter, calling for their immediate release.

“Where is the latest periodic release of Ministerial Diaries for the April-June quarter of this year?” Ms Webb asked.

“In light of recent controversial policy announcements, it is incumbent on the Government to ensure the regular and timely disclosures of ministerial diaries is maintained.  It is unacceptable for people to have to keep reminding them.

“The quarterly disclosure schedule is woefully inadequate in the first place, but it beggars belief that despite such a leisurely disclosure regime the government still falls behind.

“This time last August, I also had to call for the April-June quarterly ministerial diaries to be released.

“This tardiness has all the hallmarks of hoping people won’t notice, which is not best practice for transparency or accountability.”

Ms Webb said that in March 2023 the Legislative Council voted in support of her motion for the development of a mandatory ministerial diaries disclosure system, but instead the Government implemented its voluntary and minimalist alternative.

“This is the problem with the government bringing in a voluntary and minimalist diaries disclosure process instead of undertaking a properly informed development process to establish a mandatory regime consisting of timely and meaningful data released in a rigorous and consistent manner, as my motion of last year proposed.

“With a parliamentary session about to commence I am calling on the government to both immediately publish the April to June quarterly ministerial diaries, and to publicly commit to ensuring there reliable and regular disclosure from here on in.”
