Pokies back on agenda

PREMIER Peter Gutwein needs to release the tax rate for casino pokies during the election campaign, say independent member for Nelson Meg Webb and the Greens.
Ms Webb, an anti-pokie campaigner, said if the government was still in secret negotiations, it would be unacceptable for the Liberal Party to accept any donations from the Federal Group during this election.
“I am calling on the government and Liberal Party to declare any donations it has received from Federal Group in the past 18 months,” she said.
Greens leader Cassy O’Connor said both Labor and the Liberals were avoiding talking about the pokies during the campaign.
“We’ve got a government that said it was going to introduce the legislation this term and instead of doing that has gone a year early,” Ms O’Connor said.
“The Labor Party, which promised before the last election to remove poker machines from pubs and clubs has now backtracked on that.”
