Submission made to Player Card and Cashless Gaming Public Consultation Paper 2024

The preferred and most responsible public policy position to address gambling impacts of poker mahines (pokies) would be their removal from community venues – and i will continue to advocate that position. 

However, the 2021 announcement by the Tasmanian government to introduce a universal pre-commitment player card for poker machines was recognised by advocates as a worthwhile harm minimisation mechanism to provide effective consumer protection, and also help reduce the devastating poker machine-related gambling impacts experienced by the community.
